President of the Spanish federation declares support for Vini Jr and attacks Tebas: “It should avoid clashes on social networks”

In a press conference held this Monday morning (22), Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), spoke out in relation to the new case of racism suffered by Vinícius Junior in Spanish football.

Rubiales declared full support for the Brazilian star and took the opportunity to refute the stance of Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, who defended the measures taken by the institution in situations of racial injury. “It wasn’t the time to get into an argument on Twitter”said the representative, criticizing the attitude of Tebas.

According to the president of the RFEF, the problem goes beyond football, it encompasses Spanish society as a whole and is educational. “It is not the first time that this has happened (a case of racism) and it is bigger than football. Racism is an issue of education. It is a serious problem that harms an institution, its fans and a nation.”said Rubiales.

In the second half of the match between Valencia and Real Madrid, played yesterday (21), at the Mestalla, and valid for the 35th round of the national league, Vinícius Junior identified chants of “mono” (“monkey” in Spanish) coming from part of the home team fans.

After the complaint, the referee chose to stop the game and restart it after about eight minutes. Later, in the final stretch of the duel, the striker got involved in a mess with striker Hugo Duro, goalkeeper Mamardashvili and other Valencia athletes, which caused the expulsion of the Brazilian.

After the game, Vinícius Junior expressed himself on his social networks, complaining about the expulsion and criticizing the league’s stance in cases of racism. Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, responded by downplaying the situation and assuring the commitment against the acts.

However, recent history says otherwise. For now, there are already nine accusations of racism in the courts for the competition, eight of them against Vini, and only two convictions. Both La Liga and Real Madrid continue to reaffirm that they will take the necessary measures to avoid new situations.
