Italian Football Association bans Super League
ROME – Italian clubs wishing to participate in the European Super League will be banned from all national competitions in Italy including Serie A. The president of the Italian Football Association FIGC, Gabriele Gravina, warned the clubs after a meeting.
Three Serie A clubs had initially joined the twelve clubs that took the initiative for the Super League; Juventus, Internazionale and AC Milan. Inter has already withdrawn from the Super League and AC Milan did so. Only Juventus has not yet definitively ruled against participation.
“Clubs that plan to play in competitions outside of UEFA and FIFA will lose membership in our championship,” said Gravina.
The Football Association of Italy has approved a clause that will be added to the rules of the association. It states that clubs that sign up for the national competitions must agree that they will not participate in private, unauthorized competitions and otherwise be banned.
