With some historic jobs at Portuguesa, Paysandu, Vitória and Bahia, Vágner Benazzi became a coach recognized for the way he managed to get access from Série B of the Brasileirão to Série A. The Portuguese Sports Association announces that Vagner Benazzi, former athlete and football coach of the Club, died today, at the age of 68. Known as the “King of Access”, Benazzi defended Lusa in the 1970s in the club’s youth categories. As coach of Rubro-Verde, he saved Lusa from falling in Serie C in 2006 in the feat known as Batalha da Ilha do Retiro.
In 2007 he won the Paulista A2 cup and gained access to Lusa for the Brasileirão. His wake will take place at the Bela Vista Municipal Cemetery, this Monday, from 10 am to 4 pm, at Rua Diogo Benitez, 400, Vila Osasco, Osasco, São Paulo/SP. In mourning, the Portuguese Sports Association regrets Benazzi’s departure and wishes his family and friends strength in this time of pain.
