Liverpool struggles to hold out against Aston Villa,

Liverpool recorded an important victory in the Premier League on Tuesday. The team of manager Jürgen Klopp won in Birmingham with difficulty with 1-2 of Aston Villa and came therefore in points equal with Manchester City.

City, which on Wednesday on a visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers can again run out on Liverpool, still enjoys a slightly better goal difference than ‘The Reds’. After Wednesday’s games, there are still two rounds to go in the Premier League.

Liverpool fell behind in Birmingham in the fourth minute thanks to a goal by Douglas Luiz. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker initially saved well on a header from the Brazilian, but from the rebound he had to answer.

Barely two minutes after the opening goal, it was again equal at Villa Park. A cross from Virgil van Dijk ended up via the hand of Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez at Joël Matip, who was able to work in from close range.

Midway through the second half, Sadio Mané crowned himself matchwinner. From the counter-punch, Luis Díaz gave a perfect pass to the Senegalese, who made it 1-2 with a clever header.

In the closing stages, Villa still had enough chances to equalize the score, but the visitors struggled to stay upright. That was mainly due to Alisson, who prevented the 2-2 from coming in with a number of excellent saves.

Thanks to the victory, Liverpool can still hope to win the so-called ‘quadruple’. ‘The Reds’ are in the final of the FA Cup and the Champions League. The League Cup was won earlier this season.
