Sony says it will make more PS5 exclusives and fewer PC versions of its games

Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan told Famitsu about the importance of PS5 having exclusive games, noting that it will take longer for versions of some of these games to come out for PC.

Sony plans to maintain the favorable PS5 sales momentum with the releases of Final Fantasy XVI in June and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (slated for release this year), with Ryan saying that the arachnid hero’s game, being exclusive to the PS5, will use all console resources.

He also mentioned that Sony plans to increase the number of PS5 exclusives while decreasing PC ports. He added that PC fans don’t mind waiting two or three years to play these games on their computer.

“We also fully understand the importance of PS5 exclusive titles. As I mentioned earlier, PlayStation Studios’ primary responsibility is to make people enjoy the game experience using the latest PS. We are increasing the number of exclusive PS5 titles and reducing the pace of release for PC versions.”

Sony’s decision to slow down the speed at which its games are released for PC may also be related to the performance of some more recent titles, such as Returnal and Sackboy: Uma Grande Aventura, which did not do well on the computer, and not simply wanting to ensure the PS5 has the games exclusively for longer.

However, given the success of games like God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and Horizon: Zero Dawn on PC, it’s likely that Sony will continue to release its titles on the platform, even if it takes longer than it currently does.

In the same interview, Ryan said that Ghost of Tsushima has sold over a million copies in Japan.
