UEFA scraps away goal rule
UEFA on Thursday scrapped the rule that away goals count double in the knockout phase of European tournaments. From next season, there will always be an extension and, if necessary, penalties.

From now on, only the number of goals will be looked at in the Champions League, Europa League and the new Conference League. Even with the mutual result in the group stage, goals made no longer give the decisive factor.
“The away goal rule has been an intrinsic part of UEFA competitions since its introduction in 1965,” uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said in a statement.
“However, its lifting has often been discussed at various UEFA meetings in recent years. Many coaches, fans and other stakeholders questioned whether the rule was fair and preferred to abolish it.”
