Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead
The remake of Road House is in the works at MGM may have just found its main star. Deadline reports that Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in a new version of the classic ’80s movie with Doug Liman(Tomorrow’s Edge, March of Chaos) also potentially on board to lead.
According to the report, studio executives are meeting with the writers to develop a new storyline with the Restart Relay considered a high priority.
At this time, it is not clear if this new Relay approach is intended to be a new remake of the source hardware or if it will be connected in some way.
As such, it’s also unclear whether Jake #Gyllenhaal would play a new incarnation of Dalton, Patrick Swayze’s character in the original film, or if he would be someone completely new but set in the same universe. Neither MGM nor Gyllenhaal have commented on the news yet.

Directed by Rowdy Herrington and written by David Lee Henry and Hilary Henkin, Relais was released in 1989. It starred Patrick Swayze as Dalton, a bouncer in a roadside bar tasked with protecting the city from a corrupt businessman.
It is widely regarded as one of Swayze’s best films and is still widely celebrated today with a large number of fans. Ben Gazzara, Kelly Lynch and Sam Elliott also played.
Due to the success of the film and its enduring sequel, MGM released a sequel ,Road House 2: Last Call, in 2006. It was directed by Scott Ziehl and released directly on DVD, and while it’s fun for what it is, it obviously didn’t reach the heights of this original film. (Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead)
It stars Johnathon Schaech as the son of Swayze’s character, following in his father’s footsteps by protecting a Louisiana bar from criminals.
There have been plans in the studio for years to roll back the dice with Relais by developing a remake. Several years ago, former UFC champion Ronda Rousey was lined up to star in a new Film Relay with Nick Cassavetes(Dominant Dog)set to write and direct.
This version of the project was eventually put on hold before production could proceed, putting MGM back on the drawing board, but there is apparently potential between Jake Gyllenhaal.

If this project eventually comes to light, it could take some time before the cameras start shooting. Gyllenhaal is about to team up with Guy Ritchie to begin filming The Performer while Doug Liman prepares production on Everest.
We last saw Gyllenhaal in #Netflix’s acclaimed thriller The Culprit, which just came out last month. Footage was recently released of the actor also featured in Michael Bay Ambulance’s upcoming thriller.
Because a Relay remake has already collapsed before it can be done, it could well happen here too, and an official release date has not been set for this new take.
Maybe it could depend on having the right people on the project and making sure they have enough time in their busy schedule to do it, at least that would be the case with Gyllenhaal. This news comes to us from Deadline.
