Luan arouses interest from Krasnodar, but Leila Pereira makes a surprising decision

Palmeiras player since 2017, Luan aroused interest from Krasnodar, Russia. The defender welcomes the possibility of transferring; however, Leila Pereira wants to keep all the athletes in the squad in this transfer window.

In the morning, Placar magazine published about Russian interest in the Palmeiras player. Luan was a starter for a long time in the defensive sector of the team from São Paulo, but ended up losing the title with the arrival of Murilo, in 2022. With the shoulder injury of his partner, the number 13 returned to be more present in the games, forming a duo with Gustavo Gómez this season; however, after the competitor recovered, he returned to the bench.

At the age of 30, Luan participated in 231 matches for Palmeiras and scored eight goals. In all, the defender has ten titles with the green shirt: Brazilian Championship (2018 and 2022), Copa Libertadores (2020 and 2021), Copa do Brasil (2020), Recopa Sul-Americana (2022), Supercopa do Brasil (2023) and Campeonato Paulista (2020, 2022 and 2023).

Even though he was important within the squad and helped in many of these titles won, Luan always had his casualties in the São Paulo team, especially the distrust on the part of the fans for being present in bids against Palmeiras that many blame him, mainly in the two penalties committed in the Club World Cup, against Tigres of Mexico (2021) and Chelsea, of England (2022).

Internally, the defender is highly praised by athletes and other club employees, mainly for his influence among boys from Verdão’s youth categories.

Last Sunday (16th), in a press conference, after Palmeiras’ goalless draw against Internacional, in the South, coach Abel Ferreira said he was satisfied with the defenders he has at his disposal. In addition to Luan, Gustavo Gómez, Murilo and Naves are the other defenders that the Portuguese has in his current squad.

At the beginning of the year, the defenders had the company of the Chilean Kuscevic, but the defender transferred to Coritiba, and Abel decided to move Naves to the professional group. After that, Luan became an immediate reserve for Gustavo Gómez and Murilo.

Brazil’s transfer window closes on August 2, but clubs in Russia and Arabia can register new players until September. With that, Palmeiras needs to anticipate to strengthen the team for the course of the season, as a lot can still happen.
