Final Fantasy VI Remake Wanted by Many Square Enix Employees

Square Enix Vice President, Producer and Director Yoshinori Kitase and Final Fantasy franchise veteran Hironobu Sakaguchi recently commented on many gamers’ desire to see a Final Fantasy VI remake, shared even by staff at Square Enix itself.

According to what both said during a broadcast to celebrate 35 years of Final Fantasy, the task would not be easy.

According to the translation published by the user genki on Twitter, Sakaguchi said that FF6 is a pixelated game, so they would have to change the story and turn it into something cinematic, which would be very complicated to do. He also joked asking if Kitase couldn’t finish the FF7 remake faster so they can start working on FF6, and everyone laughed.

“I think the FF6 remake would be difficult. The FF7 remake isn’t finished yet, so I can’t think about that,” said Kitase. “But for FF6, there are a lot of FF6 fans within the company and they often ask me ‘when are we going to do 6?’”
