Lula is expected to announce new resources for universities in a meeting at the Planalto Palace

The president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), has a meeting scheduled this Wednesday (19) with federal deans and directors at the Planalto Palace. According to the current minister of education, Camilo Santana, the official will deal with new transfers to federal and private universities in the country.

“It will be tomorrow with the presence of deans. The values ​​will be announced tomorrow by the president. We know how much universities and institutes have been scrapped in recent years”, informed the minister during an educational event.

According to the minister, Lula should announce the resumption of works paralyzed since 2007 at federal colleges and institutes. In February of this year, Camilo Santana had already announced the expectation of resuming more than 4,000 works stopped in kindergartens and school universities.

“We’ve already done a whole survey, where they are, what type of work. There will have to be a legal legal framework to allow the resumption of many of these works. There are works since 2007, works in which the agreements have already ended”. Said during the ceremony in February.

The president also communicated during the ceremony that he would invest around BRL 23 billion in works. But the official announcement of the amount must be announced during the meeting in Planalto.

The estimate is lower than that of the previous year, considering that Lula took over the Ministry of Education (MEC) already with a decrease in basic education of 34% compared to 2019.

The event in which the minister participated, All for Education, is a non-governmental, non-profit organization whose purpose is to guarantee the right to quality education for all Brazilians. Simone Tebet, current Minister of Planning, was also present during the clarifications. For her, the expectation is that in the next 4 years there will be no budget contingency due to the insufficiency of expected revenues in education, in support of the Minister of Education.
