De Graafschap fired trainer Reinier Robbemond on Wednesday. The club from the Kitchen Champion Division is no longer confident that better results will be achieved under the former midfielder.

Under Robbemond, who has been in charge in Doetinchem since the beginning of this season, De Graafschap is experiencing a disappointing season. The ‘Superboeren’ lost 2-0 at Roda JC on Monday, which already meant the fifth consecutive game without a win.

De Graafschap is ninth in the Kitchen Champion Division with thirteen wins, eight draws and nine defeats. A place in the first two and with that direct promotion to the Eredivisie is not possible.

“With the appointment of Reinier, we took a new direction last summer. Initially we also noticed the desired fresh wind, but development has stalled in recent months,” says general manager Hans Martijn Ostendorp.

“We greatly appreciate Reinier’s commitment, knowledge and skills, but we believe that he is no longer the best head coach for De Graafschap. We have to be honest about that, and we conveyed that message today.
