The Hardware and Software Survey of Steam of June 2023 shows that the new graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD are not being very popular with users.
The highest ranked GeForce RTX 40 series is the laptop version of the 4060 in 29th place, followed by the 4070 Ti by far. In the case of Radeon cards with RDNA3 technology, they don’t even appear on the list. In fact, the best Radeon card is ranked 14th, with 2.01% of gamers using “Radeon Graphics”.
The most popular video card currently is the GeForce GTX 1650, with 5.67% adoption. After it comes the RTX 3060 with 4.74% and the GTX 1060 with 4.58%.
The high price of GeForce RTX 40 series cards is certainly one of the reasons consumers are thinking twice about equipping their computers with them. Another likely factor for the low adherence involves the little video memory that some of these new GPUs have, in this case the 4070 with only 12GB and the 4060 with only 8GB, and the correct thing would be for the 4060 to have at least 12GB and the 4070 to come with 16GB.
In the case of AMD, the consumer seems to have almost completely lost interest in Radeons. Although the cards come with more VRAM compared to GeForce and are more affordable in price, they still leave a lot to be desired in performance with Ray Tracing, in addition to the FSR2 upscaling technology being inferior to Nvidia’s DLSS.
If the Steam poll is true, most users seem to be content with keeping their cards rather than upgrading to current GPUs from Nvidia and AMD.
