The best red carpet looks

In recent weeks, the loudest buzz among websites, blogs and social networks was how the theme of the Met Gala this year would be performed by guest celebrities, given as a focus only on the work of Karl Lagerfeld. Expectations were high among commentators, critics, fashion lovers and the very awaited event of the year that took place this Monday (01), in New York.

Since 2017 the The Costume Institute Benefit was not a retrospective of a single designer, but the career of Lagerfeld, who spent decades dedicating himself to houses such as Chanel, Chloe, Fendi, Balmain, Patouin addition to your homonymous brand, provided a lot of material to work on in a beautiful exhibition. What we saw last night were brands reinterpreting looks signed by Karl Lagerfeld in the past, haggles of his precious collection of unique and very personal creations, and even tributes to the designer’s “uniform”.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky

Unsurprisingly, Rihanna is often the last to walk the Met Gala red carpet. This year, it was no different: wearing Maison Valentino, she arrived wrapped in a camellia cape – the flower, symbol of the house – which turned into a shawl she wore, hanging from her arms. On the white dress, a single camellia on her chest could be seen, with a train that required an entire entourage to climb the steps of the Met. A$AP Rocky accompanied her with a custom Gucci shirt, embroidered skirt with trompe-l’oeil details, a reinterpretation of the designer’s look during the Chanel Spring/Summer 2005 show in Tokyo.

Penelope Cruz

One of the most anticipated celebrities of the night and co-chair of this year’s edition, Penélope Cruz wore a Chanel Couture spring/summer 1988 gown originally worn on the runway by French supermodel Ines de la Fressange. A close friend of Karl Lagerfeld, she allowed herself to look in the designer’s archive for the look worn last night, the elegant dress with a hood, full of crests.

Dua Lipa

The singer was also chosen as co-chair of the event, and for the occasion she wore a Couture autumn/winter 1992 dress, originally modeled by Claudia Schiffer. The top was the bride of the Lagerfeld show, a tradition in haute couture shows. To complete the dress, Dua lipa wore a Tiffany & Co exclusive diamond necklace weighing over 100 carats. According to Harper’s Bazaar US, the singer has a total of 10 million dollars in jewelry as of Monday night.

Irina Shayk

In a vintage 1988 Yohji Yamamoto gown, Irina Shayk appeared, complete with twisted rope straps, a distinct interpretation of the bridal aesthetic that dominated the carpet this year. But the most heavenly detail was the ballet slippers, a shoe silhouette that Lagerfeld knew well.

In a gorgeous strapless black dress, a slightly distorted interpretation of Karl Laferfeld’s aesthetic, Jessica brought back the memory by bleaching her hair in a simple homage to the designer, wearing sunglasses and a cheeky demeanor with Gucci glamour. To complete the look, black tulle gloves, Gucci high jewelery necklace and rings.

Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny’s custom Jacquemus look drew all the flashes his way, comprised of a long tail with embroidered camellias and details that can only be seen afterwards. The jacket he wore contained a custom printed image of Casa Malaparte, photographed by Karl Lagerfeld in 1997.

Gisele Bundchen

The Brazilian appeared on the red carpet wearing an all-white dress and feathers. The Chanel 2007 look was used by herself in an editorial for Harpers Bazaar Korea. On that occasion, the work was photographed by the hands of Karl Lagerfeld himself.

In a bespoke black silk crepe dress with a glass pearl harness, inspired by a look from the 1991/92 prêt-à-poter collection, the 35-year-old singer adorned a ensemble of Chanel accessories, shoes and bag.
