A rumor started circulating on the internet a few days ago claiming that Illumination, responsible for producing Super Mario Bros: The Movie, was already working with Nintendo on an animated adaptation of The Legend of Zelda franchise. However, the studio denied the story.
“I don’t know where that came from,” Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri told TheWrap, referring to Zelda. “I mean, I can understand how people would imagine all sorts of things because obviously we had a great experience working together. My relationship with Nintendo now includes being on their board of directors, so I understand how people can assume these things. But specifically, that was just something I heard a lot of reports about. That’s pretty much what’s next between Nintendo and Illumination.”
Benjamin Renner, a director at Illumination who is currently working on the animation Ducks, also commented on the matter, saying that he sees “one report a week” on what his team is going to do next, and this one ended up involving Zelda.
With the stellar success of Super Mario Bros: The Movie, which is already the second highest-grossing animated film in history, the most logical path for Nintendo and Illumination is to make a sequel, so a Zelda animation might take a little longer to come to fruition. to happen.
