Oscars 2022 – Will Smith violently hits Chris Rock live

Shortly after making a joke about actress Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hair, Oscars host Chris Rock saw Will Smith come on stage and slap him badly. The star, who later received the Best Actor award, apologized on the microphone for his violent gesture.

The scene shocked the audience of the Oscars , those of the ceremony as well as those who were behind their screens. This Sunday evening, March 27, 2022, during the famous American film awards night, Will Smith went on stage to slap Chris Rock , shortly before winning the Best Actor award for The Williams Method .

Chris Rock, one of the presenters of this 94th edition of the Oscars, had just made a joke about the wife of Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith . 

He compared her close-cropped hair to Demi Moore ‘s shaved head in Ridley Scott ‘s film On Equal Arms ( GI Jane , released in 1997).

 Jada Pinkett-Smith, who has publicly spoken about her alopecia (hair loss) in the past, rolled her eyes. Amused at first, Will Smith then took the stage and slapped Chris Rock hard , the sound of the hit echoing through the microphones. 

ABC channel muted the sound during the ensuing scene, but the dialogue was audible on foreign televisions.

” Wow…Wow… Will Smith just kicked my ass ,” Chris Rock said. ” It was a joke on Equal Arms”, he justified himself to the actor. ” Leave my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth ,” yelled Will Smith, returning to his wife ‘s side , with whom he has two children, Jaden and Willow. 

He is also the father of a boy, Trey, born from his past relationship with Sheree Zampino. Note that Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett-Smith have already worked together: for the dubbing of the characters in the animated filmMadagascar and its sequels, one being Marty the zebra, the other Gloria the hippopotamus.

Shortly after, the actor went on to win the Best Actor Oscar for The Williams Method , where he plays the coaching father of champions Serena and Venus Williams.

 “ I want to apologize to the Academy ” of the Oscars, he launched in tears. “ Love makes you do crazy things ,” he added, his face covered in tears.

The faces of VIP guests, such as Nicole Kidman or Lupita Nyong’o , flabbergasted, spread on social networks as reported by BFMTV.
